Today, I am thinking of the people who help others and lead a life of great purpose. Does your company support its people who volunteer, who serve, who make contributions to the world? Write and let me know what your company does to help make a difference.

As always, you're welcome to pass this newsletter on to your friends and colleagues.

Top Picks - What I'm Reading This Month from your About Retail Industry Guide
I'm reading an eclectic mix of gifts, business books, and old favorites. Here are just a few of the books in my briefcase and on the sidetable:

1) Sky High: Stories of Survival From Air and Space
A gift from a friend who knows I dream of traveling in space, this book took on new meaning this week in light of the loss of the Columbia. If you're looking for something that brings the challenges faced by the brave explorers of space to life, this is the book.

2) The Best Business Stories of the Year 2003
I'm skipping around instead of reading cover-to-cover, and so far every story in the book is interesting and well written. It's a good tote along book with stories the right length for train rides and waiting rooms.

3) Retail Success!
I've recommended this book before, but because most of George Whalin's practical ideas won't cost you a fortune to implement, it remains useful and timely. If you're looking for ways to "Increase Sales, Maximize Profits, & Wow Your Customers," this is the book to read.

What's new in CRM? Not a thing...
CRM at the Crossroads
Operations & Fulfillment asked CRM experts what's new in CRM, and the answer was an almost universal, "nothing." However, that doesn't mean there wasn't anything to talk about.
