Apple, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, Costco and just about every other major U.S. retail chain will have special store hours on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2012. But unlike every other holiday in the 2012 Christmas holiday shopping season - both real and imaginary - retail stores will be closing early on Christmas Eve and opening late on the first shopping day of the year, January 1, 2013. This is one of the few retailing traditions that is remaining unchanged as the 2012 retail calendar ends and the 2013 retailing calendar begins.

This list is arranged according to closing times, with the earliest closing times listed first.
