International Retailer of the Year NRF Annual Award Winners 2003-2012

Each year one global retail industry leader out of all the thousands of global leaders of multi-unit retail chains is recognized as the "International Retailer of the Year" at the National Retail Federation's (NRF) annual convention.

The criteria that the NRF uses to choose its International Retailer of the Year winners is not specifically published, but in general, the NRF states that the award is presented to a global retail company and retail leader which demonstrates excellence both in their native country and internationally.

The 2012 International Retailer of the Year managed to double the profits of the company she led in just six years. This would have been an impressive accomplishment for a newly established, upstart retail chain, but this award-winning retail leader managed to skyrocket company sales in just six years, which included two years of major global recession. She did all of this with a well-established retail company more than 150 years old while her hometown retail contemporaries were struggling just to underperform.

What follows is the 2012 International Retailer of the Year, along with a list of the global retail leaders who have received the NRF International Retailer of the Year Award in this century - 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. This list is arranged by year, with the most recent year first. The International Retailer of the Year Awards are presented at the NRF's annual convention, which is generally held in January each year.
