North America is the home of most of the world’s largest retailers, since the U.S. dominates the global retailing industry. Not only is the retail industry responsible for two-thirds of the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP), U.S. retail companies have also established a presence on every continent.

Each year a “Global Powers of Retailing” report is compiled by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and STORES Magazine, ranking retailers from all over the world according to total revenue. In 2010, the 13th annual list was released, ranking 250 retailers from 32 different countries. What follows is the largest retail companies from each country in North America - Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. This 2010 list reflects the revenue that was generated in 2009, which was still a year of intense global retailing recession.
