What do the top car companies in the U.S. and around the world really care about? The answer can be found in the corporate mission statements of automotive companies like BMW, Ford, Honda, Audi, Chrysler and more. Often what drives the leaders of the largest automobile manufacturers and retailers is quite different from what their advertising commercials would like auto consumers to believe.

This is an index of mission statements for the top American and international automobile companies operating in the United States. A summary of each company's mission statement is included in this index.

This mission statement index is arranged alphabetically, according to the name of the auto company.

Acura Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Torrance, Calif.
  • International Headquarters: Minato, Tokyo, Japan

The Honda Corporation created the Acura brand in order to continue delivering fresh ideas with the highest quality to automobile-driving consumers worldwide.

Advance Auto Parts Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Roanoke, Va.

While the name of the Advance Auto Parts company focuses on its products, the mission statement does not. Rather, Advance Auto Parts wants its employees to focus on honesty, integrity and mutual trust with customers.

Audi Group Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Herndon, Va.
  • International Headquarters: Ingolstadt, Germany

The mission of the Audi Group focuses on innovation, positive experiences and corporate responsibility, the sum total of which, the company believes, will create "customer delight."

AutoZone Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Memphis, Tenn.

AutoZone uses an interesting, but somewhat complicated acronym at the heart of its official mission, vision, and values. It's Customer Service Pledge and Values use "WITTDTJR" solutions to put the customer first and provide car repair and maintenance advice that is trustworthy.

BMW Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Woodcliff Lake, N.J.
  • International Headquarters: Munich, Germany

BMW is a premium product at a premium price and its mission statement reminds employees of the type of premium customer experience that should be associated with that.

Chevrolet Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Detroit, Mich.

The mission statement of the Chevrolet brand comes from the CEO of General Motors, its parent company, which includes five principles involving employees, customers, and shareholders.

Chrysler Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Auburn Hills, Mich.

In the time immediately following its bankruptcy, Chrysler refocused its employees on a basic mission about quality cars and customer satisfaction, which helped the company emerge from bankruptcy and return to profitability.

Ford Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Dearborn, Mich.

The Ford Motor Company refers to its mission as a vision, which is very much in alignment with the vision that its founder, Henry Ford, had when the company first began.

Harley Davidson Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Milwaukee, Wis.

The spirit of the Harley-Davidson products and the Harley Davidson road experience are captured it the company's mission statement which focuses on "fulfilling dreams."

Honda Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Torrance, Calif.
  • International Headquarters: Minato, Tokyo, Japan

Producing a high-quality vehicle is a common mission of the world's largest automobile companies. Honda differentiates itself from its global competitors with corporate principles that include fresh ideas, youthfulness, harmony, and joy.

Hyundai-Kia Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Irvine, Calif.
  • International Headquarters: Seoul, South Korea

The lofty mission of the Hyundai Automotive Group encompasses the future of mankind, which the company intends to positively influence with its Innovative solutions, human-centric services, and eco-friendly products.

Mazda Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Irvine, CA
  • International Headquarters: Fuchu, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan

Mazda's mission statement attempts to engage employees at an emotional level by focusing them on "exciting" products that "delight" customers. 

Mercedes-Benz Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Atlanta, Ga.
  • International Headquarters: Stuttgart, Germany

The Mercedes-Benz USA group has its own mission, which is six values that "drive" sales and manufacturing in the US. Together with the six global principles of its parent company, Daimler Group, the Mercedes-Benz American employees are well guided. 

Nissan Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Franklin, Tenn.
  • International Headquarters: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan

The Nissan Motor mission statement is all about the customer promise and the way that Nissan actions and decisions fulfill that promise today and in the future.

O'Reilly Auto Parts Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Springfield, Mo.

The mission statement of O'Reilly Auto Parts Stores is more focused on the nuts and bolts of the auto parts business than its major competitors, making reference to the right combination of price, quality, and customer service that it wants its employees to deliver.

Pep Boys Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Philadelphia, Pa.

Caring for people before caring for their cars is what the Pep Boys mission statement is all about.

Subaru Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Camden, N.J.
    International Headquarters: Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan

The Subaru mission statement is its corporate philosophy, which is focused on technology, relationships, and global progress.

Toyota Mission Statement

  • U.S. Headquarters: Plano, Texas
    International Headquarters: Toyota, Aichi Prefecture, Japan

Toyota focuses its employees on a mission much larger than individual vehicles sold to individual people in individual dealerships. It focuses on selling high-valued products to customers to create a great "ownership experience."

Volkswagen Mission Statement
