Top U.S. Retail Companies With LEED Certified Stores, Buildings and Facilities

For some retailers the green movement is little more than a public relations opportunity to write a press release after changing a light bulb. Other members of the U.S. retail industry consider green retailing to be a real and important challenge to create a sustainable future by fundamentally changing the way they do business.

The major retail chains that are leading the American green retailing movement are making substantial investments and long-term commitments in their processes, products, and even their facilities. What follows is a list of U.S. retail companies that have buildings or commercial interiors that have been certified with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) status from the U.S. Green Building Council. The certification recognizes that the retailer's physical facility has met the standards to be classified as an official "green building," as defined by the council.

This list is arranged according to the four levels of certification that can be awarded, with the "platinum" level being the highest classification.
