U.S. Retail Industry Climate Leaders Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG)

American Retailers Partner with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

The "Climate Leaders Program" was created by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in order to assist the corporate world achieve measurable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). Out of the hundreds of companies from all industries that have partnered with the EPA as Climate Leaders, only 16 of them have significant retail operations.

What follows is a list of Retail Climate Leaders that have committed to reducing their GHG emissions, and are actively working with the EPA to take tangible steps to make their GHG goals a reality.

Best Buy
GHG Goal: Reduce U.S. GHG emissions by 8 percent per square foot from 2005 to 2012

Dell, Inc.
GHG Goal: Reduce global GHG emissions by 15 percent per dollar revenue from 2007 to 2012, and to achieve net zero global GHG emissions by 2008 and maintain that level through 2012

Gap Inc.
GHG Goal: Achieved its initial goal by reducing U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent per square foot from 2003 to 2008

General Motors
GHG Goal: Reduce total North American GHG emissions by 40 percent from 2000 to 2010. General Motors achieved its initial goal by reducing total North American GHG emissions by 23 percent from 2000 to 2005

Kohl's
GHG Goal: Net zero emissions by 2010 and maintain that level through 2012

L.L. Bean
GHG Goal: Reduce U.S. GHG emissions by 20 percent per square foot from 2006 to 2012

Limited Brands
GHG Goal: Under development

Office Depot
GHG Goal: Under development

Pizza Fusion Food Services
GHG Goal: Under development

Publix Super Markets
GHG Goal: Under development

Shaklee
GHG Goal: Achieved its initial goal by maintaining net zero U.S. GHG emissions from 2006 to 2009 using a 2004 base year

Sherwin-Williams
GHG Goal: Reduce total U.S. GHG emissions by 4 percent from 2007 to 2012

Staples
GHG Goal: Reduce total U.S. GHG emissions by 7 percent from 2001 to 2010

Tiffany & Co.
GHG Goal: Reduce U.S. GHG emissions by 10 percent per square foot from 2006 to 2011

VF Outdoor
GHG Goal: Under development

VF Sportswear
