To mark the last day that website merchandise orders could reach their destination using regular shipping methods, dozens of online retailers banded together in the 2008 holiday shopping season to create "Free Shipping Day." The first official Free Shipping Day was December 18, and the event's organizers hope that it will become an annual retailing event as well-known as Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
While the advertising for Free Shipping Day boasts that there are more than 100 reailers paricipating, many of the e-commerce sites listed offered free shipping as an ongoing promotion throughout the 2008 holiday shopping season.
