Retail Chains Hiring and Expanding in 2009

More than 70,000 retail employees lost jobs in the first quarter of 2009, but some retailers are still hiring. (More about retailers hiring in 2009 below.)

While some of the best known U.S. retail brands are cutting jobs and closing stores, other retailers with cash are finding huge opportunities for expansion in the midst of recession.

Retailers who committed in the first quarter to an aggressive number of store openings in 2009 include Dollar General, Family Dollar, Panera Bread, Aldi Supermarkets, Darden Restaurants, and Lowe's.

This is good news for hundreds of thousands of downsized retail employees who are having trouble finding somewhere for their resumes to land.
