Each year Forbes Magazine compiles and publishes its "Global 2000" list, which ranks businesses around the world based on each company's sales, profits, assets, and market value. The list provides a comprehensive comparison of publicly traded companies from all industries in every country on the globe.
The "Global 2000" rankings are much different from the "Global 500" list compiled and published by Fortune Magazine each year. While Fortune considers only total revenue when creating its rankings, the list makers at Forbes view the label of "largest" from a more holistic perspective. This is why there are many discrepancies when you compare the "Global 2000" list with the "Global 500" list in 2011.
What follows is the list of companies with significant retail operations that were ranked on the 2011 Forbes Global 2000 List, based on 2010 financial results. The number in the left column indicates the ranking that the company received, out of a total of 2,000 companies which were ranked by Forbes.
