This is a discrepancy worth noting, according to Catalyst, a non-profit female advocacy organization with headquarters in New York. In order to assess the progress of women in the American workforce, Catalyst created an annual "Census of Women Board Directors of the Fortune 500" report in 1993.
How much presence do women have in the highest levels of leadership in the U.S. retail industry? The answer can be found on four different lists that Catalyst created after researching the retail companies on the most current Fortune 500 list. While Catalyst collects data on Fortune 500 companies from all industries, only the retail industry data is included here.
