Each year Forbes magazine publishes its list of "America's Largest Private Companies" list, which ranks major companies with private ownership by annual revenue. This is in contrast to the more famous Fortune 500 list, which focuses primarily (although not exclusively) on publicly traded corporations.
In 2008, 20% of the companies included on the Forbes annual business ranking were from the retail industry. Below is the list of those retailers, arranged according to the rank assigned to it by Forbes editors. The number behind each company is its annual revenue as reported by the company, or estimated by Forbes.
